3. Project for the new square
The square of every village is the symbolic place of his community, the place where form and its values, culture and solidarity among its members, and where, it creates images of this bond, its signs approved. In large cities
lives and this relationship is expressed on a different scale than the smaller centers: cities in the bond with the inhabitants of the figures is less direct and heartfelt. The experience of the project in small towns is therefore important and decisive in contemporary culture. It is starting from similar cases that you can really build a culture of the area again with organic society and the men who compose it.
Garbatola The square, in our view, must be different from the square in a big city and should be, especially with respect to public places and restless abstract of a metropolis. And this difference, this feature is for us the most interesting character of the project. For this reason we decided that the square keeps his memory of places that surround the center, ie maintained a rural character, and this without falling back into folk, or design a purely nostalgic, but with a contemporary reinterpretation of the theme.
Through a simple, basic design we have chosen to highlight the dominant elements of the space, clarifying the relationship and bringing out the tracks eventually weakened by the passage of time.
A linear geometric trace highlights the correspondence of a public place with the greatest monument, the Church of Saints Francis and Sebastian. This area occupies the whole extent of space, from the facade of the church up to the front of the court who oppose it. Resumes of the sacred dimension of the thickness and extent of the scans of its spans. The square, so also is the churchyard, and in this sense, our project proposes to demolish the existing gate that separates the Church from public land, which was canceled, a newly built and so, suddenly, the Church and will relate directly to public land.
The track's main square is then divided by age, partly paved, partly covered with grass. It is clear that in our project, the existing road and indeed the project can be manufactured as an architectural project included in the history of the village, a story certainly more pedestrian driveway, is indifferent to choices related to administrative or other logic on the movement of cars .
